I’ll be the first to point them out. I’ve been disappointed by politicians from both parties. I’ve been accused of being unpatriotic. At times I may be. If I believe our leadership is wrong or that we have done injustice, I will use my right of free speech to speak up as loudly as possible.

Despite it all, the U.S.A. and this idea we stand for, of freedom and liberty for all, is awesome and great. We are amongst a few nations who value these ideals. I think the Casey Anthony case clearly demonstrates this. I have no idea if she was guilty or not but there appeared to be a lot of circumstantial evidence and suspicion without much proof. In our way of doing things a jury has to find the defendant guilty beyond any reasonable doubt before convicting. This insures that it is more likely a guilty man would go free before an innocent man could be convicted. If by chance a guilty man/woman is falsely convicted and it is later discovered that he/she was innocent then this person will become very wealthy. Does this happen in Saudi Arabia or many other countries??? In fact, what would happen to Casey if she were in Saudi Arabia.???

I know I live in a great country. Even today, many people from China, Mexico, Philippines, Pakistan, Africa, India and beyond would love to become U..S. citizens if given the opportunity.
On this day of 9-11-2011, ten years after our country was attacked, I wish to publicly proclaim, long live freedom, long live the U.S.A.

What Is Bigotry?

The other day I had a guy in my barber chair who went on and on about how black people, from Obama and on, have taken over the US and that people ought to stick to marrying within their own race. Then another guy who came by told me a story about his recent trip to Vegas. He said he was upset by a security cop at a popular casino who reprimanded him and his wife for something his wife said aloud in public. Apparently, his wife had taken a visit to the restroom and overheard a Hispanic woman speaking in Spanish on her cell phone. The wife blurted out , ‘This is America, we speak English here’, in a loud enough voice for all around her to hear. The casino security on the scene had been alerted about the incident and proceeded to catch up with my customer and his wife and told her, ”Madame, this is Las Vegas and we speak every language under the sun here”.

Now I have learned to keep my mouth shut when I am working or I wouldn’t have very much business because the other patrons in the shop were obviously in full sympathy with this guys wife's point of view. In fact, I know I’ve lost business from expressing my views here in this blog and have even considered taking it down because of this.

There’s bitter and passionate hatred here. Actually there seems to be a rather large movement disguised and marketed to promote white racism.

On my block here in Prescott Valley Arizona there’s a guy with a Mexican Flag hung in his front yard and beneath it is a caption in bold black letters that says, ‘ALL MEXICANS GO BACK TO MEXICO’.. Now if one were to put an Israeli flag with the caption of Jews go to Israel they would no doubt be tarred and feathered. ...Of course when these guys come in they usually don’t realize I am married to an Asian immigrant. As their barber they assume I am somehow a trusted allie. Anyhow the guy goes on and on and then he says, “but I’m not a bigot. I’m just telling it as God intended it to be” So I got to thinking, what IS a bigot? I remember one time when I was a teen from Huntington Beach wondering into a Thrifty Drug Store in Compton to get an ice cream cone. Everyone there was served except me. People there just kept pushing me out of the way and cutting in front of me and I got to thinking that perhaps maybe this has something to do with me being the only white boy in the store. Then by comparing notes with my wife I found that amongst Asians there are all kinds of prejudices as well, Chinese vs. Filipino, Japanese vs. Chinese, and all kind of darker skin vs. lighter skin kind of stuff. Then there's the ultimate classic of Jew vs Gentile .

I would have to say anyone who feels that interracial marriage is wrong is a bigot. Digging a little deeper it seems to me that each side falls into one category or the other, that of the rich vs the poor, the haves vs the have-nots . This would indicate that bigotry and racism to be more of an issue of a class war. If this was true then if society makes it a priority to lift up the minority to an equal financial position it still doesn’t seem to eliminate the problem at all. Instead it serves to anger the ruling or more financially successful class to the point of militancy. In some counties where there is no rule of law this means genocide.

In conclusion I would say it's just ignorance based on misinformation people believe and the sheltered environments people have mixed with the fear of the unknown. Like Jesus said, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." We know there was a time when the Roman Catholic Church was not welcome in the US and witches were burned at the stake.

I guess we have changed since the old days a bit by having a black man as President but there are still too many streets that President Obama would not be at all safe walking on.

How Not To Convert A Muslim

In 2001, the son of Billy Graham, Franklin Graham, described Islam as evil. I really wanted to cry but after inquiring about it with a few of those standing there representing the church, I decided against attending and took my boy to McDonald’s instead.

OK, here’s the story. We drive up to the church and parked in the handicapped spaces was a very huge antique green military vehicle kind of like an old Hummer. I have to admit it did look pretty cool even though it was intruding on some parishioners handicapped spaces. I proceeded to take my boy to the Sunday School entrance and couldn’t help but notice the entire church staff, Sunday School staff, Sunday School Band and musicians, as well as some of the kids attending, were all wearing combat uniforms and military fatigues. I asked one of the staffers what was going on, what was the reason for the outfits??? He just kind of shrugged his shoulders and referred me to the Sunday School teacher who was also dressed like a drill sergeant. He gave me a little pamphlet that indicated they were studying the battle of Jericho or something and that was that. From what I gather those in charge thought it would be a ’cute’ idea to have a military theme for the day by dressing in this style. All I can say is the entire episode did encourage me to take my son back to the car and pray for these misguided religious zealots.

I know many people here believe that the U.S. is fighting for freedom but I do not believe that our involvement in the Middle East is in our best interests. There’s a lot of promotion or, I dare say, propaganda, that is aimed at my 10 year old son designed to make him and his buddies believe that joining the military and fighting wars are a very cool thing. It’s everywhere!!!! On MTV there’s all kinds of ads that make joining the military out to be something akin to playing with the most fantastic highest technology video games and stuff, like it’s just sooo cool sooo noble and admirable. When I go to the theatre to view the latest new flick there it is again, some well produced video by some popular young band glorifying the military. Now I’m not really a pacifist and I am not anti-military. My Dad fought in WWII. If you attack my family or brothers I’ll do whatever I can to kill you dead but please don’t tell me to send my only son to fight some bloody war that I do not believe in.

Some people like to say that Islam is a violent religion that provokes war. I think if you use Old Testament examples you could say the same about Judaism. Jesus, on the other had, overruled all those Old Testament examples. He made it clear that we are commanded to love our enemies and to pray for those who spite us. The only time cited that Jesus became visibly angry was with the religious people especially when they had turned the temple of God into a swap meet. I kind of think He would have reacted the same way if He were to walk into the Heights Church on this day because what they have done is essentially the same by turning a house of worship into a propaganda machine. The Kingdom of God has nothing to do with the politics and the governments of this world. And the distinction between matters of church and state should always be a priority. The church is my place of worship and to learn to practice love for one another and not a place to make political points. I believe that to use the church of Jesus to promote or glorify the U.S. military is blasphemy.

Responsibility and Real Success

Sometimes it's more than difficult and you think you just can't do it and then when you do at last finally succeed that is the kind of success that is most meaningful. So many people think it should be as easy as putting up a video on youtube. There's White House crasher's and balloon boy and an epidemic amount of people in our country that expect success at the drop of a hat. Instant gratification. If there's only one thing I ever teach my 10 year old boy I pray that it will be knowing how to be responsible and understanding that true success requires hard work and discipline. In fact, he's learning right now that life is not always about doing whatever we desire without restraint. I think anyone telling a different story about that is a fool. There may be a few who get lucky or win the lotto but if they haven't learned the key to being responsible then they will not keep their wealth very long.

The ******** Church Prescott Revisited

OK, In the past I’ve been openly critical of this church here in my hometown. I’ve written to the pastor, posted blogs about it and made my concerns regarding their ministry known.
Politically, I am NOT a conservative and I am especially sensitive to Republican political rhetoric coming from the pulpit. I am also a Christian and I strongly believe in the separation between church and state. If I go into a church and sense that the teaching is promoting a particular political agenda, be it right or left wing, I feel offended. Such is the case with many churches I have attended here in Arizona.

The ******** Church does have an excellent Sunday School program for kids my boys age so despite my reservations I figured I would just try to overlook my biases. Last Sunday, January 18, I decided to revisit The Heights.

Toward the beginning of the service the pastor invited an Arizona Senator (who is also a church member) to deliver a prayer to the congregation. I was thinking to myself, this is it, like when she starts praying about the noble actions of America fighting for freedom in Afghanistan or God protecting us from the evil of Socialism to just bear with it and block it out. Hmmm, when it ended the prayer sounded like a pretty sincere plea for God’s blessing without any noticeable hint of political motivation.

Next was the sermon. Wow, inspired by passages from John 13 the apostles are admonished by Jesus to wash each others feet. Though the Lord Jesus was aware of the suffering he was about to go through he spent his last night washing the feet of his apostles, even the feet of Judas his betrayer. The life and conviction of the sermons delivery helped put the listener right there with Jesus and the apostles at the last supper. This was a great sermon about serving one another. I believe this was about the true essence of what it means to be a real Christian. I was moved by the pastor’s words and continued to take communion in the church later in the service. I do not take the sacrament of communion lightly and would not have partaken if I had not felt the conviction of the Spirit to do so. On this Sunday, in this church, it did not matter that I didn’t believe the age of the Earth was only 6,000 years or if I was a registered Democrat or even whether I believed in theistic evolution. All that mattered was that Jesus sacrificed His life for me and my job is to follow Jesus.

After the service parishioners without jobs and serious financial need were encouraged join in prayer and networking to help ease the burden of this terrible economy right now. Next I went to pick up my boy from Sunday School and was able to catch the conclusion of the Sunday School message which appeared to focus and how to be more like Christ delivered in an entertaining way designed just at the level of the young videogamer’s generation.

I’ll be goin’ there again next Sunday but if you ever see a Palin for President bumper sticker on the back of my car please kick me in the butt.

Tiger's Out Of Holes

How can I defend Tiger Wood’s? No doubt about it. He screwed up big time. He had an adorable attractive wife who sacrificed her career to help raise some beautiful innocent children and he absolutely blew it by hitting every tramp that crossed his path. The thing that bothers me most though is how it is always the man who is the villain and the women involved are looked at as innocent victims and, in many cases, promoted, honored and revered. The next thing you see is that these adulteress women are posing on front pages of magazines and even idolized for being the mistress of a celebrity. This is just so wrong. It takes two to tango. A healthy adult male has an appetite for sex. It’s as real as a hunger for food. A normal man must have sex on a regular basis in one of three ways, either with a partner, by himself through masturbation or in a dream. That’s just a fact of life!!! Men have a vulnerability that some women practice hard to exploit. Whenever a man is successful and in the public eye there are many many women who will do anything to get his eye. Some women go to great extremes to seduce successful men. So why is it that when the affair is revealed the man is always the culprit and the woman is this angelic creature capable of no wrong. ‘She’s been victimized and now those wicked paparazzi just won’t leave her alone’. In the history books a President’s mistress will be looked upon with greater admiration by some than the President. For every man that cheats there is a woman cheating with him. Was it not Adam who was deceived by Eve?
I just think the lesson here should be that women have every bit of the potential to do wrong as men do. In some cases I think it could be said that the woman is even more inclined to evil than the man.
If this happened to the average John Doe would he lose it all like Tiger has? Shouldn’t the press be paying a little less attention to these mistresses instead of making them famous and shouldn’t Tiger be given a chance to try and make amends and a chance to move on to a more dignified life?

How to Cut Hair: Sometimes it doesn't go perfectly

How to Cut Hair: Sometimes it doesn't go perfectly
I finally completed my full length video about how to cut hair. I think it’s not unusual in our culture to put women on a pedestal. Call it chivalry if you like. It’s come to a point where men are sometimes portrayed as stupid and incompetent while the woman is hailed as knowing what’s best. Oft times women are portrayed as innocent victims of the weaker sex. Maybe sometimes that’s true but in my experience I have seen some pretty evil minded women. Women who as girls feel so entitled who are actually little snot faced bitches who mature only to become bitter old ladies as batty as can be. Sometimes I actually think that some women may have a larger capacity for evil than men do. I’ve heard people say that some poor girls have been forced to become prostitutes but in reality every prostitute that I ever met couldn’t wait to run away from home so she could join the trade. Of course, I’m sure every story is different. And only God can judge with an accurate point of view.

There is a particular type of woman that I am allergic to. I will call her the big B. This type is usually a manipulative control freak who feels entitled to be first in line every time. My take on it is this. There was once a spoiled little Daddy’s girl who learns at a young age how to get her way by being cute and acting coy. The girl develops into this beautiful seductive and sexy creature. Men and boys wait on her hand and foot and respond cheerfully to her beckon call. The woman ages, maybe gains weight and gradually loses some of her sex appeal but continues to have the attitude of being entitled as a result of being spoiled early on.

Thank God not all women are like the big B. There are many many sweet and loving pure and unselfish women in the world and I love these kind of girls. My wife is one of those and I have the pleasure of working and associating with many sweet women.

Re: Rape Blog

I was reading some feminist blog that said something to the effect of if a woman has ever had sex with her husband when she really wasn’t in the mood then that woman has been raped. Can’t understand how some people think especially regarding sex. I think that being in an intimate relationship should be about pleasing your partner. If both parties have this attitude of "how can I please my partner?" then there may be an occasion where it would involve a sacrifice.
A healthy male, by nature, can only go without sex for so long of time without somehow having to ejaculate. I think this is an unfair and unfortunate flaw in the way God designed us guys.

I think I I have a great relationship with my wife. We’ve been married since 1990. I love her soooooo much!!!! Sometimes though she will not be in the mood and I will be. Other times it's the opposite and I'm not in the mood and she is, (especially in the mornings, she's a morning person, I am not). It's these times that a compromise may be in order. It's the true essence of love by being unselfish and giving in to the others wishes. Of course I never would nor could I force my wife to do anything but we do have an agreement that we are, in a way, one.

Maybe you could just call it team work. My wife and I have a great (actually fantastic) relationship because we work together as a team!!! Instead of butting heads or trying to compete with each other we work together. Together we have accomplished things neither one of us could have had alone. Our beautiful and gifted son is a perfect example of this. We are extremely different from one another but instead of letting our differences divide us we use it as our strength. She is supportive of me and my goals and I likewise am supportive of her and her goals. I feel like I'm one of the luckiest guys in the world to have found this kind of love.

Religion

There are basically 6 major religions. They are: 1) Jew 2) Christian 3) Islam 4) Buddhist 5) Hindu and 6) Alternative. Within each category here are thousands of variations but I think most every religion sect or cult could be traced back to one of these six. I am a Christian. I believe in Jesus. I believe Jesus is real and that his teachings are the truest of all. Though Jesus is real, many people who say they are believers in Christ are not real!!! What I do not believe:

1) I do not believe the Bible is meant to be taken literally except for the parts about the authority of Christ and his words. The book of Geneses is meant to be taken figuratively and when taken this way one can still believe in a theistic creation that does not contradict modern science, the order in which things came into existence nor does it mean interpreting it this way that it negates the fundamental doctrine of original sin. In fact, interpreting it this way helps clarify a few things. Perhaps Adam and Eve were the first homosapiens with an awareness of God. There are parts of the Bible that would indicate that there are four 'corners' of the earth and where donkeys speak and also where we are admonished to pluck our eyes out if our eyes cause us to lust. If you really take it all so literally then there should be a lot of people out there with plucked out eyes. I believe the lesson here is that believers should not get hung up on peripheral issues but must keep the true goals of love for one another as a primary objective.
2) God takes peoples environments and heredity into account when judging a man. There is a lot of scriptural text to support this. Even in Paul's sermon on Mars Hill he said that in the past God 'overlooked' the sins of an unknowing man. Even more complex issues such as homosexuality God understands. Suppose one is born an hermaphrodite or with some other hormonal imbalance. Should they be judged as male or female? I believe the lesson here is we should not judge one another or be the ones to condemn sin. This is NOT my job!!!
3) Jesus' death has overruled all those old testament examples. War is not an option. Praying that God will smite our enemies is not an option. If you really examine some of those laws in the old testament you will find you shouldn't even be associating with a women who is having her period and all kinds of ridiculous laws which had purposes that do not apply to our society. In many ways I do believe there is a certain amount of cultural relativity. This does not have to negate a literal view of the Messiah. I believe the lesson here is that we are truly free in Christ.
4) God wants us to show respect for other peoples religion and beliefs even if we disagree. Didn't Jesus say something to the effect of, if they are not against us we shouldn't try to over correct. I believe there are hundreds of examples of tolerance in scripture. It goes back to points 2 and 3. The point here is that I believe God wants us to show respect for others and speak softly and gently about what we believe and... that it's always better to lead by example.
5) I am ashamed of those who say they are Christian yet believe that their political beliefs and interpretation of scripture are the absolute true and final word of God. All this stuff I'm writing here in these blogs of mine and the songs I write are for sure not the mind of God but just my own take on things. It's the way I view the world which has been shaped by my heredity, environment and freewill. I pray that God will give me wisdom.

About Little Sisters Tattoo

Some time ago I drove my wife to a class she was taking and it happened to be next to a nude bar so my wife, being the non jealous type, suggested that I occupy my time at this 'topless' bar while I wait for her. I hadn't been in one of those types of places for years but I figured since I was given my wive's approval I would just go in for a beer and have a look. What a disappointment!!! Every single one of those girls looked like they could kick my butt. These girls were all tattoo'd and pierced in all kinds of places. It was either like an Amy Winehouse poser contest or escape of the female jailhouse. What ever happened to girls looking sweet and soft??? Maybe I'm old fashioned but I'm much more attracted to a soft and feminine look than a girl who looks like a wrestling school graduate. Nothing against tattoo's, I can appreciate the artistic merit and all but when it comes to women I like mine soft.

New World Order

I fail to understand why a one government union where each country is given the power of an independent state, a common currency and no immigration laws between countries, can be such an evil thing other than people have been conditioned to believe such a system would hasten Armageddon. At one point he was talking about the Communist dictatorship of Fidel Castro and Cuba. Then he made a comment demonizing 'spreading the wealth' and 'socialism'. I am sure you are aware that these are exactly the same words being used a lot these days in our heated upcoming presidential election. Perhaps I misunderstood the pastors intention here but I took this to be a direct political dig against the Democrat nominee. Perhaps spreading the wealth around could be a bit more biblical than giving executives a bonus. Regardless I am a Christian and it is disheartening to hear things from the pulpit that I feel could be a disservice to Christ. I believe if you have a congregation that are vastly more of one particular political party than the general population is then I would suggest that you are not serving the community as Jesus would have.

April 2009
Dear Pastor,

First off let me tell you why I am writing you this email. My motivation is this. I love the Lord. I am a Christian and I do indeed believe in Jesus.

I was attending your church mainly because of your excellent Sunday School even though I would often come away from the adult services discouraged and disheartened. I have listened to many of your sermons. The final time I will attend your church was after your recent service which focused on demonizing the ever so popular, coexist, bumper sticker. I want to remind you again that my motivation here is based on a spirit of love for God and love for all. I truly believe that your political beliefs are tending to skew* the message of the gospel. I admit that my own political views may affect the way I interpret God's word as well. So before I made the decision to stop attending your church I asked God to give me some insight about the situation. Here's what happened next which, to me, reaffirmed my decision to find another church. I own a barber shop here in Prescott Valley. I had 2 customers in a row who came into my shop and felt compelled to share their views with me about God and politics. When I am cutting hair I am usually the one to listen to others views and will only interject my views in as soft and inoffensive way possible. My job involves being a servant so you might say I am blessed by this. The first customer was talking about Jesus and how the country was founded by Christians and that the Constitution was written with Christian values in mind and that somehow the right to bear arms was one of these Christian values. ( I feel though that we should also bear in mind that slavery and burning witches at the stake were also a part of the American way and when the bill of rights was written we didn't have automatic and nuclear weapons but... as a good listener I kept my mouth shut). Finally as I was finishing this man's cut he was telling me how our President was the most evil and dangerous man on earth today. So I asked this guy where he goes to church? Wouldn't you know it, he goes to the Heights. The next customer comes in and this guy wants to continue where the last guy left off. Now this customer wants to talk about the Lord, illegal immigrants, Socialism and on and on about how God is getting ready for the ultimate battle. What was especially disturbing about this man is he actually told me that, and I quote, he "wished someone would shoot the head off that nigger in the White House". So when I was finishing his haircut I asked him which church he attends. You guessed it! The Heights. Again!!! I'm not making this up. Now I'm not implying that you would completely agree with these two customers but I do believe that there tends to be a political bias amongst a high percentage of those in your congregation. If you doubt that just go out to your parking lot some Sunday and see if you can count how many political bumper stickers there are on the cars in your lot.

I am writing you this email in the hope that it may change your perspective even in some slight way. It's disheartening to me when those who should be representing Christ to the world appear to be doing more harm than good. I pray that God would bless your church and that your members would go out into the community with the message of God's love and forgiveness and know that Jesus has overruled the Law and we don't have the right to pray that God smite our enemies but instead are commanded to love and pray for our enemies.

Sincerely,

The Love Of Money

I've slept on the floor of my barber shop and bathed in a 32 gallon trash container before in order to get by and I can tell you first hand, there's nothing glamorous or enlightening about living in poverty. And at the rodeo, they played that song. For awhile that song was everywhere. I would just stand there while it was playing thinking how can I be so proud? There was no justice and liberty for all. Freedom had become a sham and run amock. People here were dying from lack of medical care and trillions of dollars were disappearing in Iraq with absolutely no accounting for. Haliberton and Exxon Mobile were reaping huge profits and I was wondering if I should just walk away from a home I owe more on than what it is worth. We finally have a President that will be fair and stand up for that which is just. I sent out 400 copies to various contacts and college radio stations. As a result, over 50 college stations are currently playing it and a few commercial stations have picked it up. There's also been some exciting inquiries from Europe. At the same time I have gotten some very hurtful criticism of it. When wrote that song, McDonald's In Baghdad (4+ years ago) and I played it live, some of the audience walked out. It was an older audience. Had I been singing it at a Marine base at that time I may have needed a bodyguard. Regardless of how one would feel about our involvement in Iraq I think we were all hoping that it would be a quick in and out like Kuwait. I never imagined that song would STILL be relevant today. Despite what some may think I really love this country and care what happens here which is the whole reason I'm putting this stuff (my political music) out there in the first place. I don't NEED to do it. and I'm obviously not doing it to cash in on a trend either. A lot of the songs on my current CD were written years ago and I wasn't winning any popularity contests for it. My next album will be love songs.

Are CD's Obsolete?

Part of the fun of records and CD's is having a package. 'Bright Eyes' last CD came with a cool decoder. You couldn't see the cover art or read the notes without using a little magnifier looking thing. My new CD entitled, Tribal Mentality, has lyrics and videos and the videos are encoded in both Quicktime and Windows so no matter what type computer the fan can watch the 2 bonus videos. I always love to get the lyrics on an album. Another advantage of a disc is having something a little bit permanent that won't crash or one day get 'lost' somehow. People say books will become obsolete too but we still got em. If you really believe the CD format is dead I suggest you ask the Plain White T's how many copies of their special edition 'Hey There Delilah' CD's they sold recently?

I'm Not ALWAY'S a Liberal

I have some rather conservative views as well. I do not believe in abortion. I'm not so conservative that I think it should be completely outlawed but I don't think it is right. I would be in favor of a law which would require the woman and the guy that got her pregnant to both consent to it in order for it to happen. It takes two to make a baby, at the very least, it should take two to terminate a pregnancy. I believe a law like this would cut down on abortions tremendously!!! Also I believe in capital punishment and in the case of someone who hurts a child they should be put to death in a slow and torturous way. If people want to see violence let them televise executions of people that have done heinous crimes. Of course when it comes to U.S. foreign policy I am opposed to most of what we do and am extremely opposed to our role in Iraq though I am not a pacifist in cases of self defense. I believe George W is the worst President in history. I'm an environmentalist and I believe marijuana should be made legal...so I guess you could say I am a liberal who is not liberal on every issue.

Loaning money and the 2 most important things about money

If someone is a good risk for a loan then there are many big companies that will give them a lot of enticing offers to accept loans. Some of us get offers for loans in the mail every day. On the other hand someone who is a bad risk for a loan will not get these offers because THEY ARE A BAD RISK. If my dear friend is a bad risk for a loan and I give him or her a loan I have to be prepared to write it off and consider it a gift of charity when my dear relative defaults on his or her loan. When it comes to being responsible with money a lot of people don't get it and have to learn this responsibility the hard way. Unfortunately, some people just never get it. They become the ones that everybody else has to pay for and many of them seem to develop a sense of entitlement and feel as if the deserve or have earned the charity of others. I think there are two very important things about money which determine a lot about a person. They are 1) What do you or will you do for money? and 2) What do you do with the money you get? The answer to those two questions can tell you a lot about where a persons heart and values lie.

Why My 8 Year Old Son Doesn't Like Girls

My 8 year old son doesn't want to have anything to do with girls. Mr. Paul is a little old man 97 years old. He lives in a retirement home and he is the only man there with a population of 150 little old ladies. He's still pretty vibrant and alert so I ask him, "Mr. Paul, Do you have a girlfriend?" He says to me, "Are you kidding, They come over to my room with their flowers and baked goods trying to court me but when I see them coming I turn out all the lights and go and hide in the closet." The moral of the story is, if a man can live long enough, when he finally can't get it up and is no longer that interested in the opposte sex, there will be hoards of women vying for his attention. Where are all these women when we our in our 20's????

Gap

Been a few years since I've posted here. There is always an us and a them. The bigots continuous theme throughout the ages is this: They are not like us. All I can say is one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter. This isn't because we are different or evaluate and view things differently but because we are receiving different information from different sources and none of it appears to be totally unbiased and infallibly true. John Locke had it penned centuries ago and I believe that my countries founders were more influenced by his philosophy than that of a bunch of narrow minded religious fanatics who delighted in witch burnings. These religious people are the very Pharasies that crucified Jesus in the first place.

Favorite Reaction to New Song

"I've heard your song. (In particular some crazy pastor from a nearby church who preaches a doctrine of politics, and pseudo-psychology and insists on home schooling his kids..you know, imo, you got to watch those people who home school their kids...they usually have a unique right wing agenda or world view that they are pushing). I contend that if a churches congregation is not the same proportions of Democrats, Republicans and Independents as there are in the local population then they are preaching a false message with a political agenda which is destroying the credibility of the church as a source of truth and guidance. If you're a preacher and you are in the pulpit talking about Bush, Saddam, Iraq, America, or different political movements be it gays or anti-abortionists, may God judge you harshly for commandeering and cheapening the Gospel of Christ.
Dear God,
Thank you that we live in the greatest country in the world, unlike Canada or France..and thank you Lord for calling on our young men who are so willing to sacrifice their lives to fight for our great and true freedom. I picked my 6 year old son from the Sunday school during the middle of class and we attended another near by church instead. I was just outright offended when the associate pastor started his rant about the Iraq war by saying that we should be so grateful that these servicemen are putting their lives on the line for our freedom. Is this really why we overthrew Saddam? For my freedom??? As I see it the only one fighting for my freedom is me. I just can't understand how anyone can reconcile a political cause with what Jesus had to say. Didn't Jesus say his kingdom was not of this world, to love your enemies and to turn the other cheek????? Blessed are the peacemakers, they're the ones with the biggest guns. Maybe I just don't get it but I don't go to church to hear some man's opinion...So instead we attended Calvary Chapel and the preacher was preaching about sexual immorality. With all the good looking women at that church it was a most appropriate subject.

Patriotic Spam

I got some patriotic spam today. Something about pledging allegiance to the flag. Here's my heartfelt response. The Bible says pride cometh before the fall and I've heard it said that doesn't apply to patriotism, heritage or religion but I disagree. All pride is bad and it serves only one purpose which is to build oneself up. If we have pride , it should be pride in the human race as we are all on this same planet together and all of one race, the human race. If we are patriotic, we should be patriotic toward Mother Earth because this is our habitat and what is done in one country directly affects us all. Patriotism for a particular country and racial pride serves only to divide us from one another and is a form of bigotry. It's the old 'us' and 'them' mentality and we know 'our' cause is always a righteous one.

New Inventions

I'm always thinking of things that should be available but are not. Here's my latest list:
1) Fake Fish- More than just those fake aquariums, real fake fish that could go in regular aquariums and ponds. The advantages are obvious to anyone who has ever cleaned an aquarium or fish pond.
2) Laser Tree Trimmer- An easier way to trim trees without the climbing.
3) More Solar Signs- OK, It's nothing new but hardly in common use. Every type of sign, especially commercial signs and advertising should be solar whenever possible.
4) Sound Separator(for musicians and recording studios)- A machine that would be able to isolate a particular instrument or sound from a pre-mixed piece. For example, you would be able to take an older previously recorded piece of music and completely isolate only one particular instrument. This could do wonders for sound recording restoration.
5)Plastic Bricks-Like number 3 this is nothing new but still an idea whose merit is not yet fully appreciated.

Give Halliburton a Bonus

FACT:
Halliburton, the company which (in case you don't know) was run by Vice-President Dick Cheney until he joined the 2000 race, has earned more than 7 billion dollars under its 2001 logistics contract with the U.S. military.
On 5/8/05 the U.S. Army announced it has awarded Halliburton 72 million dollars in bonuses in connection with its logistics services.
Who says war doesn't pay?

What to do When Attacked?

My 5 year old son asked me this question the other day. Dad, what should you do when someone attacks you? For reasons I can't explain, I felt that the somber manner in which he presented the question was as if someone had prodded him about it. Afterall, I have been instilling in him my pacificistic philosophy about the war and he's been known to spontaneously break out singing Green Days' American Idiot in public places. So what's the correct answer here?? Is there a reason for the attack? What did you do to contribute to this assault? Is it not provoked? Have you gone to a higher authority to try and resolve the conflict? Should you follow the example of Jesus? Love your enemy? Turn the other cheek? Ask God to forgive them? Should you fight back with all your might? Kick ass? The question only seems to lead to more questions.

So what did I tell him? First son, try to find out why you are being attacked? What did you do to anger your attacker? Try to communicate and resolve the issue peacefully. If that doesn't work, go to a higher authority, call your Dad, call the teacher, the principal, the UN or some other neutral party. What if you don't have time for that or that doesn't work.... then what? Would a loving God call his people to battle? I prefer to believe the best policy here is in the teaching of Jesus...Forgive your enemy, love your enemy, blessed are the peacemakers. Is this really practical? Isn't this issue what sets us apart from beasts? How can this be applied in a world so full of anger and hate?

Good question son.

Procrastination

Procrastination is probably one of my biggest obstacles. I start a lot of projects with a passion but once that passion wanes I get a little bored and I'm off on a new project. I could justify it by saying that this is what helps to keep the passion alive. After a little break I am ready to return to the original project with renewed vigor. It keeps me from getting burnt out. I've done that with my book, haircutting(which I am currently on a Sabbatical from), my music, my so called ---- square peg in a round hole in a world where I am a misfit--- real estate career, even... this blog. Becoming a Realtor is very interesting but being a non aggressive, non confronting type personality makes me feel out of place. I do plan on recording a CD of some of my newer songs this year...hopefully I can get someone to help me produce this one other than myself. How commendable. It proves that there are some good businesses out there. How long it will last before they are gobbled up or clobbered by some big greedy enterprise exploiting the poor and manufacturing junk, remains to be seen.

I really don't see what's so hot about the hybrids though. Jesus replied, "Do not forbid him, for he who is not against us, is on our side." (Luke 9:49;50). One of my favorite passages in the New Testament is the Apostle Pauls sermon on Mars Hill where he implies that God does not judge people by what they don't know. (Acts 17:22-31). The Bible repeatedly emphasizes that God looks at what's in a mans heart. Concerning the age old debate about freewill vs. destiny, I believe that people are a product of their heredity and environment. Some of us, by random circumstance, have more freedom to change our environment. It may well be impossible for someone in a different culture to ever see things, especially God, from my vantage point. The Bible repeatedly emphasizes that God judges a man by what's in his heart and that God does not show favoritism. God sees the complete picture, environment and all. As a Christian I believe my primary concern should be how I conduct my own affairs and apply my values to my everyday dealing with others. It's my duty to love others without predjudice or animosity.

God and Evolution

I believe in the Biblical account of creation and I also believe in evolution. I don't see the contradiction. Evolution doesn't necessarily teach that things were created simply by chance. The Bible doesn't necessarily teach that the 7 days of creation are 7 literal days as we know them..Man was the last of Gods creatures and this fact does not contradict evolution..I believe Adam and Eve were the first people with a spirit or conscieness of God. I think the important thing is always, what's the message of the story. Though I believe in the exclusivity of my faith, I don't believe that my faith teaches intolerance. There seems to be a rather large group out there that has the same mindset as those who labeled Galileo as a heretic when he proclaimed the world to be round. "We know this man is a heretic," they said, "because the Bible clearly states there are four corners of the world."

God and Country

I believe in Jesus but not the political one..When confronted w/ a political issue Jesus said, "give to Ceaser what's Ceaser's and give to God what is God's."(Luke 20:25). Also when Jesus was asked by Pilate why he didn't resist he replied, "my kingdom is not of this world otherwise we would fight for it"(John 18:36) ...You could just as easily say God is a Democrat because Jesus said 'feed the poor' and Democrats are generally more concerned about these types of issues. Let's see now, which political party would have a market on that verse, 'Blessed are the peacemakers'....? What I believe is that God neither approves or disapproves of any political system or candidate. To say he does is like saying God prefers the Dodgers over the Yankees..all this anti-abortion gay bashing self righteous piousness is not what Jesus taught about love, forgiveness, and examining are own values and ethics instead of others.

JUST BECAUSE IT'S SUNDAY

Red or Blue

Watching the election returns of an election that is certain to effect history in a dramatic way. My friends and I couldn't wait to dress up in a costume as Davie Crocket or some cartoon character and be able to go door to door to collect as much free candy as our parents would allow. What an exciting event it was.. No mention was ever made of this being the Devil's holiday nor did we associate it with the Devil. So perhaps there was some mention of ghosts and goblins but overall, IN OUR HEARTS AND IN OUR MINDS, there was no association with evil. This time of year I always see a lot of churches going on a big anti-halloween campaign..many going to great lengths and detail to explain the pagan origin of what is commonly referred to as 'the day of the dead' in other countries..a day where many traditionally visit the graves of their departed loved ones. I believe this attack on halloween does a disservice to Christ by taking the emphasize off the love and forgiveness of Christ and concentrating on something very negative. Also, I think this is something that could keep the the unchurched from accepting the gospel. This is one of the reasons I left the ministry at Calvary Chapel. Perhaps the Christmas tree had some sort of pagan origin as well, yet you don't see Christian churches banning it. At the very least, I believe this is one of those peripheral issues that's a matter on conscience, like eating meat offered to idols. As for me, my boy will be going out trick or treating this year as a Hot Wheel race car driver and I will not deny him that..Should another person feel so convicted as to not allow their child to celebrate halloween, I respect their choice to do as their conscience dictates.
Sincerely, Steven Woodham

Contaminated Fuel

An Army reserve unit disobeyed orders for a mission to deliver a fuel shipment to Baghdad. If you take it all to heart, I think Jesus said something like it's not about this world. You could say Kerry is more concerned about the poor and Jesus said to feed the poor. Religion and politics don't mix and one of the great things about the U.S.ofA. is the separation of church and state. In other words, I believe, my opinion is not necessarily God's opinion.

Damn the Competition

I always felt that competition didn't exist. Why? Because everyone is unique and nobody can do anything in exactly the same way. Also, because you can only compete with yourself and, finally, because there is an endless supply of resources and is enough for everyone.
After seeing my sons soccer team lose for the fifth consecutive time, I'm beginning to think the reason I hate competition so much is because I hate to lose so much.
This is a fundamental flaw of Metaphysical philosophy. Some of it is based on denial. You can say that the house is not on fire because you do not choose to accept it yet, if the house is indeed on fire, how can you can deny it?
Guess the old adage about it's how you play the game is what's important here. What bothers me is that the good guys, the ones that play fairly, are often the ones penalized. This seems especially true in the corporate world where profit is the prime incentive. Have you ever seen a really cool business fold?

<img src="http://www.audioblogger.com/media/images/audioblogger.gif" class="audImg"border="0" alt="this is an audio post - click to play" />

Yuppie Hell

I wrote this song back in the 80's..Getting into real estate brought it back to mind. I have ambivalent feelings about it. As far back as I can remember, I've always hated competition. I never liked games or sports or any type of competition. Only recently, with my 5 year old boy being on a soccer team, have I discovered a competitive side of me that I never knew existed. Also, I have a passionate concern for preserving nature. Developers and bankers leave a bad taste in my mouth. I especially hate financial institutions and consider most people who work for them mindless, inflexible drones who are patronizing the beast...So part of me just wants to forget the whole thing and start another band, or maybe go down to my favorite radio station and see if they will let me work as an apprentice..And when I go into some of these real estate offices I feel like such a misfit. So what motivated me to get a Real Estate license? The information gained was well worth it. If I had known more about this in the past, I would have been able to make more informed financial decisions. I can use this knowledge to help my family and others. If I can only find a broker that will just be there to answer questions and rubber stamp my marketing plans in a casual non-rigid environment then, I shall give it my best shot. Anyone looking for property in Prescott?

Capitalism: For The Love of Money

A lot of people get the impression that I am against free enterprise. Having been a self employed businessman most of my life, I'd be a real hypocrite to say that...I'm currently about to venture into the world of Real Estate. (I am taking the license exam this week.) According to the Bible, it's not the money but the lust of money that is the root to all evil. The reverend Terry Cole-Whittaker once said something like, "The best way I can fight poverty is not to be in poverty myself." It's true, in a material world one can not be of much use to others if they are in poverty. In fact, they become a burden. The problem basically becomes, what we are willing to do for a buck. So often in our system doing business puts the vendor and the vendee in an adversarial position where, in order for the vendor to get the best deal, the vendee has to bend over. This is especially true in some businesses like financial institutions. (Have you looked at your credit card contract lately?)..What can you do? Regulation doesn't seem to work and it restricts freedom..Thus, the real culprit is not the system, be it Marxist or Capitalist..the real problem is greed. Then we can only get into spiritual solutions. The problem with religion is entirely different post so I shall save that for later ramble.

Doing Business with a Gun
1. I bookmarked the site and have been checking it a couple times a day...Now the information has been released and I'm wondering what you have to do to be chosen?????..Here's what the site says about obtaining tickets...
Debate Ticket Information
September 28, 2004
The Commission has received many requests for tickets to attend each of the debates. We are very pleased with the great interest the public has demonstrated in these debates. Please keep in mind that the debates are primarily intended for the television viewing audience and the seating available in the debate halls themselves is very limited. The demand for tickets far exceeds the supply for each debate. If you have not been contacted already concerning tickets, we will be unable to accommodate your request for tickets. We thank you for interest in the debates.

This new Green Day CD, American Idiot, is cool and the only relevant mainstream stuff available...as far as conveying any meaningful political message, the record companies have given us either them or the Dixie Chicks.

First Post

I decided to create this blog because I get so frustrated living in a redneck town and to draw attention to my website, http://woodywoodham.com This post is just to see how it works.
